What is a Logo?
Logo is a graphic design term that has been shortened from the original term logotype. Type is also a shortened term from typography. So, we have the term logo or logotype.
Why have a Logo?
Logos are used to establish a brand's identity by developing a graphic element that represents it and is destinctive in it's appearance and recognized over time and constant usage in the marketplace.

A good example of a logo is the Dunlop "flying D".
Dunlop has been using this element for years and is recognized the world over.

As you can see on the right column logos can take almost any form and color.
Logos can be a very important part of your marketing in that it most likely will be an element your customers will see first and hopefully remember it because of it's unique quality and that it also communicates quickly and effectively the purpose and product your business sells.
You never get a second chance at a first impression.
There are many ways to present your product or service but the logo branding must be strong and memorable for your market to desire it.
An example of one of the most successful logos developed and used for years.
The word Nike is alos deleted from time-to-time leaving only the swish design element which works visually because of years being associated with the brand name. |
